CAP Center's four intervention programs attack the source of the problem and focus on stopping the generational cycle of abuse by helping families replace traditional patterns of abusive behavior with effective skills for healthy parenting. All programs, developed in response to community needs, have been proven effective.
Parent Aide Mentor Program Trains volunteer parent aide mentors to work with at-risk families referred by CPS and the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center. CAP served 187 families in 2004.
The Families First divorce education program Teaches divorcing parents with minors the effects of divorce on their children. CAP served 538 adults and 165 children in 2004.
Shaken Baby Syndrome Education Teaches students and citizens strategies for dealing with crying babies and preventing this insidious form of child abuse. CAP educated over 1,220 teens and child-care providers in 74 classes in 2004.
Healthy Families Dallas Works with at-risk pregnant teens in high poverty neighborhoods from the onset of pregnancy to the baby’s fifth birthday. CAP served 39 teens and their babies in 2004.
